“Fluid motion”

Theater has been a major source of inspiration for this design. I see this design as my own choreography, with the mobility of humans at its core. I used architecture to guide people. I deliberately chose a busy location where people have many choices. By dividing the paths into three, people have no choice about where to go; they can only follow the architecture. The architecture is designed to stimulate behavior in a certain direction. It becomes the choreographer of human movement, placing humans at the center of attention. They are performers guided by the architecture.

My design is inspired by the ancient amphitheater, which typically consisted of three different tiers stacked on top of each other. The “stage” is lower than the spectators’ seating, in contrast to the layout of modern theaters. This classical layering and structure is also evident in my design. By creating seating areas that overlook the stage, resting spots are formed where the architecture compels you to pause, directing your full attention to the stage. It also provides a moment where you can observe other people on the bridges, watching how the crowds move around each other.

Theater is een grote inspiratiebron geweest voor dit ontwerp. Dit ontwerp zie ik als mijn eigen choreografie, de bewegelijkheid van de mens staat hierin centraal. Ik heb de architectuur gebruikt om de mensen te leiden. Er is bewust gekozen voor een drukke locatie, waar mensen veel keuzemogelijkheden hebben. Door de paden in drieën te delen hebben de mensen geen keuze waar ze heen gaan, maar kunnen ze alleen maar de architectuur volgen. De architectuur is dan ook ontworpen om het gedrag in een bepaalde richting te stimuleren. Deze word de choreograaf van de beweging van de mens, waardoor de mens als centraal aandachtspunt komt te staan.  Ze zijn performers die geleid worden door de architectuur. 

Mijn ontwerp is geïnspireerd op het oude amfitheater. Deze bestonden meestal uit 3 verschillende lagen die boven elkaar lagen. Het “podium” ligt lager dan de zitplaatsen van de toeschouwers, dit in tegenstelling tot de indeling van de theaters die we nu kennen. Deze klassieke gelaagdheid en opbouw zie je ook weer terug in mijn ontwerp. Door zitplekken te maken die neerkijken op het podium ontstaan rustplekken waar de architectuur jou dwingt om even still te staan waardoor je volledige aandacht naar het podium gaat. Maar het geeft ook een moment waar je kan kijken naar de ander mensen op de bruggen, hoe de massa’s zich om elkaar heen bewegen.
